Testimonial 2023

News from Wallop Artists

On Thursday 2nd March Wallop Artists enjoyed a demonstration by Fiona Forbes, who is a very popular professional artist and a member of the group.  Her website strap line is  “Painting the world in vibrant and up lifting colours”, which she ably illustrated with the paintings she displayed and her work during the afternoon.

Fiona trained in Dundee and Bangor and taught and painted in Ayrshire, many European countries and Norway over the years until settling locally in 2009.

She works in a variety of paints but during our afternoon she used water-based oil paints with palette knives rather than brushes. Fiona’s variety of wrist movements manipulating the knife produced the variety of paint textures.  She worked from a photo taken on a rainy day in Mottisfont garden preferring a dull photo from which extra vibrant colour could be imagined.    We watched as the impressionistic picture emerged in stages whilst Fiona gave a commentary and answered questions from the audience.

To see more of Fiona’s work, there is an extensive gallery on her website www.fionajforbesart.com . She is exhibiting at Salisbury Group of Artist's exhibition in Salisbury library until March 31st and at Hilliers Gardens near Romsey with Artlook, from May 4th - 21st.

She is also the tutor for a course at Dedham Hall, North Essex, April 22nd - 29th www.dedhamhall.co.uk.

Forthcoming Painting Holidays

DEDHAM HALL

20 - 27 April 2024

Dedham Hall is a well-established and long running business for art courses. It is situated in beautiful countryside on the Suffolk/Essex border near Flatford Mill.

During this week, we will be developing outdoor sketches and photographs into larger paintings in the fabulous studio. You will be using acrylics and/or water-based oils, brushes and painting knives to create texture and dynamic and colourful works of art.
